Environmental Ergonomics

Environmental Ergonomics

The working environment has a direct and measurable relationship with the performance and wellbeing of the people in that work space. In each project, the design of the building services that deliver this environment has to be balanced against cost, existing constraints within the building, etc.

What do we do?

CCD consults on the operational and business benefits of favouring the occupants and users in the design solution. This is especially critical in work spaces where there are safety critical activities conducted or operations are 24/7 in nature.

We work with project teams of architects, interior designers, building services engineers, lighting designers, acoustics engineers to deliver an environment that supports the end users.

Our Ergonomists know the performance characteristics of an environment that are required to provide, for example, warmth in the early hours of the morning when the body's natural temperature falls, or a visual environment that minimises visual fatigue and provides an interesting space to work in. We look at the thermal environment to deliver comfort, the acoustic environment to facilitate communications, artificial lighting to allow tasks to be conducted effectively whilst avoiding H&S problems and day lighting to provide a controlled but critical connection to the outside world.

CCD can deliver a full interior and environmental design service that brings together this ergonomics service with our in-house capabilities in interior architecture
