Furniture Design

Good furniture design is essential in the workplace. Furniture supports people, the work they do and the equipment they use. Workstations, seating, storage cupboards and many other furniture items define the workspace.

When designed carefully, they can help to increase productivity- making it convenient and comfortable for people to work efficiently. If designed badly, furniture can make tasks difficult and limit the ability to work effectively.

What do we do?

CCD can optimise the design of furniture in your workplace. We study peoples' jobs and the tasks they undertake to determine the requirements for the furniture to support them. We involve users in the design process using virtual modelling and full -scale physical prototypes to develop and verify design ideas.

We develop solutions that take account of ergonomics parameters, materials selection, manufacturing processes, aesthetic appeal and the fit of the furniture in the workspace. The end result is furniture that really meets the needs of the people who will use it, helping them to do their job well.

Our industrial designers and design engineers can undertake and manage technical desk and peripheral furniture specifications, trialling, design and supply programmes.

Using CAD packages such as SolidWorks we are able to design and visualise in 3D.  An example of this can be seen on our YouTube channel

We are a world leader in the use of 3D CAD software to evaluate the human within the workspace and we use the SAMMIE CAD system to test human interaction with a CAD model of the work area. This system allows accurate three-dimensional modeling of working environments and equipment, as well as anthropometrically accurate modeling of human operators which can move, reach and see to defined targets within the model.  SAMMIE is used to assess the usability of concept designs for world populations, check legislative compliance and understand user issues at very early stages.
