Space Planning
Space can be measured. Allocating it effectively and precisely to client's needs and business objectives has become a rigorous speciality - whether to assess the viability of a premises prior to acquisition, to define more efficient ways of using space or to provide a reliable framework within which to carry out comprehensive interior design.
What do we do?
CCD takes an iterative and multi-disciplinary approach to space planning using our multi-disciplinary design team supported by experts in ergonomics & psychology. We work closely with our clients to establish a strategic brief at the beginning of each project - this often takes the form of an Operational Specification document that is the clearest possible quantitative description of the space needed to accommodate the clients' working methods, human resources, business objectives and budget constraints - now and in the future. A brief of this kind is obtained through data gathering and data analysis. Data gathering is obtained through expert interviewing and questionnaires; data analysis through calculation and insightful interpretation. CCD has a widely respected reputation for both.
We space plan with an understanding of the flow of people through the sequence of spaces within a building as well as working with the characteristics of each individual building to maximise the design potential. We also take into account planned and potential change to assure our clients that premises are being used effectively. For complex working environments we will carry out interactive plotboard exercises with client stakeholders and user group representatives to test and evolve different design solutions. We can also organise full size mock-up trials so that the interrelationship between different role functions and equipment layouts can be tested and evaluated in simulated situations.
