CCD Design

Where we have come from...
CCD was set up though a partnership of two professional designers and an ergonomist. The combination of core skills reflected the type of work which the organisation sought with a blend of serious ergonomics in design. Drawing on the previous experience of the directors the company quickly established itself as a leading authority in the design of emergency service control rooms. This work, involving a safety critical environment, ensured that ergonomic concerns were given proper consideration and meant that all design solutions needed to be tempered with the requirements imposed by serious operational demands. The workstream established in those early days can still be found today after a history of control room design involving over 350 centres projects completed over 30 years.
Health and safety legislation on the use of display screens, introduced during the early 1990's, allowed the company to exploit its skills in training needs analysis, the design of video training packages and to offer training courses and audits in this area. The video training package produced was one of the most successful in the market and was supplemented with specially designed posters and mouse-mats to underline the health messages.
After establishing its credentials mainly in the emergency services the Company realised that it needed to broaden its base and has spent the last 20 years developing a broad client base which includes a mix of government and private clients in aviation, rail, security, health & safety and utilities. The Company has also contributed to major international reseach and development programmes such as CERN and the ‘ITER' fusion reactor.
Most recently the company has expanded its skill base by appointing an architect as Design Director with a view to developing further its involvement with the built environment through a blend of ergonomics and architecture.
